VISIT TO THE NORTH EAST

On a fine morning on 7th September 2024 our family set out its first ever visit to the North East for a short and brief stay .  We were heading for Silchar (my daughter in law Debasree belongs to this place).  Their family has been inviting us to visit and we were informed that the right time to visit them is September -October when the rains have subsided.  We were thrilled to this  maiden visit and so were they. The only issue is getting up at early morning which I generally hate but no option as our flight was at 8.30 AM from Bengaluru.  We have to leave the house as early as 5.30 am to reach the Airport.  I got up as early as 3 am and did not know what to do 😀😀.  We left at 5.30 AM for the Airport me , my wife and daughter.  My son & daughter in law had left for Silchar two days ago.  There is no direct flight to Silchar and we have to go to Guwahati  and change over.  Bengaluru to Guwahati is about 3 hours and we to...

MATTUR , The SANSKRIT VILLAGE

MATTUR, THE SANSKRIT VILLAGE  A tiny village in the Shimoga District of Karnataka, the little Mattur village alongwith its twin village Hosahalli is famous across the world for being one of the few existing locations where the ancient language is used coloquially.  Though the regionallanguage of Karnataka being Kannda, the inhabitants of Mattur  are fluent in Sanskrit in their daily life.  You could see somee signboards in Sanskrit even now.  The Vedas , one of the oldest texts in the world, are taught in schools here.   The villagers here are more than willing to impart their  knwoledge to anyone who is interested absolutely free. It will be interesting to note that only 1% of the world population speak Sanskrit. We set out to visit Mattur  from Bengalore  by Car .  It is about 300 kms from Bengalore and takes about six hours to reach.  There are two reasons to visit this village.  One,  the excitement to know...

TRIP TO ANDAMAN & NICOBAR ISLANDS - 17th Feb 2024 to 23rd Feb 2024

WHEN my brother Babu asked me whether we would like to join them for a weeklong trip to Andaman I was hesitant as we have been travelling a lot in November, to Goa & then to Mumbai.  Expensive trips they were.  I was in double mind why to waste time and money just to see shores and sea.  What enjoyment you get out of this, I thought. I also was scared as I read somewhere that Andaman especially Nicobar island there are Adivasi tribes waiting for you to kill you with bow & arrows. I even dreamt that in the earlier night before we were to go that I was in the company of tribal and I was tied to a pole horizontally and tribal were holding me to the fire. I believe in destiny and if we were to go to Andaman as  no power on earth can stop you from refusing to go. So we were trapped.😏 Before I take you on   tour, I must brief you a little bit about Andaman. The Andaman Islands are an Indian archipelago in the Bay of Bengal.  These  roug...
