MATTUR, THE SANSKRIT VILLAGE A tiny village in the Shimoga District of Karnataka, the little Mattur village alongwith its twin village Hosahalli is famous across the world for being one of the few existing locations where the ancient language is used coloquially. Though the regionallanguage of Karnataka being Kannda, the inhabitants of Mattur are fluent in Sanskrit in their daily life. You could see somee signboards in Sanskrit even now. The Vedas , one of the oldest texts in the world, are taught in schools here. The villagers here are more than willing to impart their knwoledge to anyone who is interested absolutely free.
